Make a stop in midtown for 2nd Saturday Art Walk!

A center for culture, creativity and vibrancy, Midtown Sacramento is an exciting 2nd Saturday Art Walk destination where local art galleries and other participating businesses collaborate to host a popular evening open house each month. Midtown guests will enjoy viewing art exhibits, participating in hands-on activities, sharing aspirations on a “wish wall,” meeting local artists, sampling food and wine, listening to live music and more.

On Saturday, September 10, a sampling of the Midtown offerings include the following:

  • Art Of Toys (1126 18th Street) presents the Art of Puppets – one of the oldest forms of theatre dating back to the 5th Century BC -- with participating artists Dan Crowley, T. Oliver Kopian, Terri Rehg and more. Vintage puppets, puppet related gifts, crafts and Folkmanis puppets as well as featured art will be on display. Also, Artie Annette will have a fun project out front from 5:30 p.m. until dark for all ages.

  • Rossi Sculptural Designs (1801 20th Street) offers a daytime open studio tour (from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) with free “Weld & Go” projects for kids and adults, turning recycled metal into cool art.  Plus, guests can view functional furniture design and other metal and fused glass sculpture while enjoying light food and refreshments.

  • Sparrow Gallery (2418 K Street) is excited to present a reception showcasing Auburn artist, Paula Amerine, who will be featuring her new series of vibrant Farm-to-Fork paintings.  Her paintings are also featured in a locally published cookbook, “The Art of Real Food - Seasonal Recipes for Every Week of the Year”.

  • TRUE (Totally Recycled Urban Exchange at 900 K Street) – is offering complimentary refreshments and light appetizers as well as partnering with Point West Rotary Club to promote the upcoming 21st Annual California Brewer’s Festival. A retail store that benefits WEAVE, TRUE offers a FUN environment to connect with the community and shop for clothing that creates change in lives when you buy.

  • Union Hall Gallery (2126 K Street) offers a special reception “Pride of People, Power of Place” highlighting four decades of Photography by the talented Chris Kilmer. Photographs feature portraits of working class men and landscapes the express the force of wilderness and the concept of pastoral beauty. Guests will also enjoy free refreshments, a wood sculpture display and an opportunity to meet the artist in the garden with Adam Bradley.

Additionally, the Midtown Business Association continues to invite the community to reflect on their lives and share their personal aspirations in a public space as part of a special “Before I Die” window art project located at 919 20th Street in Midtown. With room for 36 responses, community members are encouraged to walk by, pick up a chalk pen (which is provided) and fill in the sentence as part of this public art effort.

Also, the ever-popular Midtown Farmers Market is happening that day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the THIS Midtown free summer concert (every 2nd Saturday through September) from 4 to 8 p.m. on 20th between J and K Streets. Midtown is both walkable and bike-friendly with parking available in nearby garages located at 1801 L Street or the East End Garage on 17th Street between L & Capitol plus various lots throughout Midtown.

Supported by the Midtown Business Association, most Midtown Sacramento 2nd Saturday Art Walk activities are available from 6 to 9 p.m. (although times may vary by gallery).  For more information about Midtown Sacramento, how to get around, special events and the Midtown Business Association, please visit www.exploremidtown.org.
