March is Museum Membership Month!

On the heels of another successful Sacramento Museum Day, the Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) has identified March 2015 as Museum Membership Month!  The benefits of museum membership often extend well beyond a financial savings and include exclusive experiences only available to members.  Plus, there’s something for everyone as the thriving Sacramento museum community offers memberships at virtually every museum and/or destination -- from fine art and culture to native, exotic and endangered wildlife.

To highlight Museum Membership Month in March, many of the 30 museums are offering special incentives and discounts for enthusiasts who choose to become members of their favorite museums and destinations.  A few limited-time offers include the following:

•   Aerospace Museum of California -- 25 percent off new Family memberships during March;

Sutter's Fort "Hands On History: A Simple Emigrant Christmas" on 12/13!

To help get Fort visitors in a festive holiday spirit, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) will present an interactive and fun “Hands on History: A Simple Emigrant Christmas” event on Saturday, December 13.

In John Sutter’s day, people from around the world passed through the gates of Sutter’s Fort, each with their own customs and traditions for the holiday season.  On this special day in December, friends and families are encouraged to visit the Fort to step back in time to holidays past and enjoy docents in period attire as they interpret and demonstrate a variety of early holiday traditions and cultural activities similar to what early emigrants did in the 1840s.  Entertaining vignettes will be set up that showcase a few of the diverse holiday scenes that will include food, music, decorations and other holiday traditions.
