Cooley Legislation to Combat Homelessness
Approved by Assembly, Moves to State Senate
Rancho Cordova- Assemblyman Ken Cooley’s rapid rehousing bill, AB 870 received bi-partisan support as it passed today out of the State Assembly. AB 870 supports “rapid rehousing” principles by creating a pilot program and allocating $2 million over 2 years to this end to four counties to be selected by the Department of Housing and Community Development.
“Rapid rehousing focuses on quickly moving people and families—who often times have experienced some sort of crisis—into stable housing,” said Assemblyman Cooley. “The evidence demonstrates that when someone has a safe and secure place to live as they address other issues they may be facing their long-term outcomes are measurably better.”
