BloodSource Assists Patients and Pets this Summer

BloodSource is helping patients - and animal shelter pets - this summer by matching the number of blood drive participants with bags of food to be donated to Titanic’s Pantry, also known as the Sacramento Pet Food Bank*. Many of our blood donors have a soft spot in their hearts for abandoned pets and this is a novel way to help. Blood donors should refer to Donor Club #2127 when they donate blood at any BloodSource Donor Center or mobile blood drive from July 29 to August 4, 2013. Western Feed & Pet Supply has partnered to provide the bags of pet food at a discount.

The Midtown BloodSource Donor Center at 1608 Q. Street has partnered specifically with City of Sacramento Front Street Animal Services and Western Feed & Pet Supply to host a Bow-Meow Blood Drive on Tuesday, July 30, from 9:00 a.m.

Budget cuts leave summer school students hungry

Budget cuts leave summer school students hungry

55.8% of students in California during the 2011-2012 school year received free or reduced lunch.

A recent article written by the Sacramento Bee’s Loretta Kalb has drawn some attention to cuts in funding for summer school courses. According to the article, close to 150,000 students from the Sacramento and Yolo counties were eligible to receive free or reduced lunch during the 2011-2012 school year. However, when summer hit, “fewer than 10 percent of them took advantage of the free meals available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.”
