Deadheading at Dusk

Deadheading at Dusk

Join volunteers at the Historic City Cemetery’s Rose Garden for deadheading at dusk. We will be removing spent blooms from the many rosebushes and tidying up the garden which encourages repeat blooming of the roses in the garden. Tools and training will be provided, and light refreshments will be served. Monday, May 2, 2016, 6:00 p.m. till dark. This event recurs every first Monday of the month, except July 4th. The workshop is free, but donations are gratefully accepted to help support rose garden operations. Sacramento Historic City Cemetery, 1000 Broadway, Sacramento.

Home for the Holidays / Dress it Up DIY Napkins

Brought to you in partnership with Painters

I don’t know about you guys, but once fall is upon us, we begin a fairly intense season of entertaining. With both holidays and a massive number of birthdays that all happen in a four month period, I am always in need of simple yet gorgeous ideas for gifts and that add a bit of that something special to my décor when I am playing host! This is just one of those projects that would be a fabulous hostess gift, a much appreciated gift for new homeowners or newlyweds, and would add that holiday sparkle to your table in a snap... Urban Attitudes by La-Z-Boy Furnishings Collection Featured at “The Mill at Broadway” New Model Home

Urban Attitudes by La-Z-Boy Furnishings Collection Featured at “The Mill at Broadway” New Model Home

After years of housing stagnation, Sacramento is once again becoming the hotbed for new home developments with fresh and updated interiors.  Recently, the VP of Design for the local La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, Palm Singh, was selected to design one of the largest new home models in the “The Mill at Broadway” development built by Bardis Homes.  Created as an urban residential community in downtown Sacramento, “The Mill at Broadway” new home models opened to the public on October 24, 2015.

After a designer-search contest last year, Bardis Homes assembled a “dream team” of eight local designers, including Singh, who were tasked with transforming the various model homes with fresh and contemporary interiors that reflect the desire for more casually living and still be at prices that buyers could afford.

DIY / String Pendant Light Fixture

Every now and then I get a fabulous idea in my head about something I want to create, and I can literally imagine how it will play out every step of the way. When the folks from Casper wanted to see what I might make from their gorgeous mattress boxes, that is exactly how the planning process went down. It will be so simple, and look amazing, and I will skip, and dance, and root myself on along the way. And then… I actually dove into it and gave it a go, and that sucker went terribly, horribly awry. Like off the charts, accidentally demolished your chandelier that hangs 30 feet in the air, on another planet – awry. Ya, that would pretty much sum up this project the first five times I tried it. It just seemed so simple in my mind - and ultimately on attempt number six that you see here today - it was!... Read More

The Sound of My Mornings // A Few of My Favorite Podcasts

The Sound of My Mornings / A Few of My Favorite Podcasts

With school back in session, my mornings just got a little more chaotic and a lot more difficult. Why is it so hard to get out the door with young children? Is it just as difficult with girls as it is for boys, and is it difficult with most boys or just my boys? I haven't a clue... but I can tell you that where my little men are concerned, it is next to impossible to make it out of the house without being completely and utterly frustrated with one or both of them at least 1800 times. This is of course a mild exaggeration, but the circumstances are not and it leaves the potential for us to begin our day on something of a bad note, which is not my fave. Those of you who are expert in the mom guilt department like I am, can probably relate.
