Are you a foot washer?

In my business I have the pleasure to speak to many different people from a variety of backgrounds and occupations. As one might expect, good conversations will naturally turn to personal philosophy and world views.

A recent conversation with a fellow Rainbow Chamber member veered into the area of our activities in the community and our work with non-profits. Richard summarized his role as, “I am a foot washer, that’s what I was called to do”.

The self-proclaimed nut of Vacaville has a big job. Vacaville’s Public Information Officer Mark Mazzaferro manages the city’s website, Twitter account, Facebook page, creates YouTube videos, sends out press releases, manages the government TV station, overlooks Vacaville’s emergency radio and a lot more.

Mazzaferro has been with the city of Vacaville for five years, but has worked as a PIO for 12.

After spending an hour on the internet doing research, I’ve ordered what people have reviewed as the “best cellulite cream” – well, the best one I could find for less than $35. I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on magic lotion that may not work. I’m a little skeptical when it comes to things like that and figure if I’m wishing for miracles, I might as well as wish for my own fairy godmother.

Mystery-lovers unite at Rancho Cordova library

The Sacramento Public Library welcomes mystery book enthusiasts to the friendly and informal Mystery Lovers Book Club which meets monthly at Rancho Cordova Library, 9845 Folsom Boulevard, Sacramento.

     Occasionally, the book club will show mystery films or entertain visiting authors.  Upcoming mystery book titles and discussions are:

Summer Infant Water Safety in Sacramento

With the beginning of summer upon us, thoughts turn to fun in the sun and water.  For infants and toddlers, that can mean tragedy.  In California, drowning is the number one killer of chidren under the age of four, according to the Infant Swimming Resource of Sacramento.

In addition to providing the safest pool environment possible such as constant adult supervision, fences, covers, and alarms, ISR suggests a program of swimming self-rescue lessons as additional prevention to protect children from accidental drownings.  Children as young as 7 months old learn to hold their breath under water, roll onto their backs and float unassisted.  Older children also learn to swim with their head down, roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe and roll over again to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool to crawl out.
