La Riviera dog owner offers $1,000 reward for missing pooch

SACRAMENTO – The owner of an escaped 4-year-old pure-bred Brittany Spaniel offered a $1,000 reward for the pup’s return on Tuesday.

Gina Knepp of  Sacramento Animal Control said Rusty the Brittany Spaniel escaped from his rear yard onto the American River levy on November 24.  The other dog that escaped with Rusty was found, but Rusty remains missing.

According to Knepp, the owner has posted over 100 flyers and rides his bike along the American River trail from Rancho Cordova to Cal Expo daily in search of his dog.

The owner also told Knepp he has investigated all area shelters with no luck.

Rusty was described as mainly white with a big orange patch on his back.  He has red ears and a white forehead and mouth.  He weighs about 43 pounds, has medium length fur and a short tail.

Anyone who has seen Rusty was asked to contact the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services at (916) 808-8333

Pet owners get financial break

Sacramento and Yolo County pet owners can now apply to have their pets spayed or neutered for just $20 per dog and $15 per cat as part of “Spay Day Sacramento” on March 6.  This is a savings of 90 percent or more on this routine, but important veterinary procedure.  Spaying or neutering dogs and cats leads to better health and improved behavior and reduces the number of animals entering area shelters.

Qualifying pet owners must be either Sacramento or Yolo County residents and have an annual household income of $35,000 or less.  There is a 2 animal (dog and/or cat) limit per household.  Proof of income will be required.
