SCCA helping the community

And Jeff Gordon takes the checkered flag!  Hearing that makes you think, you know that would be fun to be a race car driver, but it is too expensive, you need a pit crew and sponsors, and of course it is a full time job.  Well, Let's face it -- you have to keep a roof over your head, you have a commitment to your family, and you don’t even have a race car.  Well it was a fun fleeting thought for a moment.

You may not be able to take the checkered flag at the Daytona 500, however there is something much closer to home that you CAN do.  But then again there is still the issue of you don’t have the money to buy a race car.  Surprisingly you might already have one and not even know it.  This is where the Sports Car Club of America comes in, and in particular Autocross.  The SCCA was founded back in 1944 with the intention to bring motorsports to the masses.

American River Conservancy & Mother Lode River Center Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day

American River Conservancy & Mother Lode River Center Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day

National Get Outdoors (GO) Day celebrates America’s Great Outdoors and encourages youth and their families to spend time outside, exploring the natural world. This year, Mother Lode River Center and the American River Conservancy team up on Sunday, June 9th, to promote outdoor recreation in the greater Sacramento region.

National GO Day helps to combat the effects of indoor, inactive lifestyles which are fueling the nation’s obesity epidemic and threatening the health of future generations. It is an opportunity to influence lifestyles, especially among youth, in ways that emphasize physical, mental and other benefits derived from outdoor recreation in the Great Outdoors.

National Get Outdoors Day is celebrated throughout the country at over 130 sites. Locally, the Coloma-Lotus Valley plays host to its own celebration of the event on Sunday, June 9th.
