Congresswoman Matsui Announces $35,000 in NEA Grants for Local Organizations

SACRAMENTO, CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) announced that two local organizations, the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra Association and California Presenters, have been awarded grants by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).  The Sacramento Philharmonic will receive $20,000 to support an educational outreach series featuring Carnegie Hall's LinkUP!

Come to the Cordova Recreation and Park District's Comedy Under the Stars, and laugh your way into the weekend!

This show features comedian Rob Little, one of the hottest comedy acts in the business.  He has headlined clubs and colleges all over the country, appeared in national television commercials and on such shows as Comedy Central’s “Distraction,” Fox News and SiTV's “Latino Laugh Festival.  This event will be held at the Village Green Ampitheater, 3141 Bridgeway Drive, Rancho Cordova, on May 7 starting at 8:00 pm.

Sacramento high school students recite poetry for prizes

SACRAMENTO - On Thursday, Feb. 3 starting at 12:30 p.m., 18 of Sacramento County's top teenage poetry performers will represent their high schools in a countywide competition. The 6th Annual Poetry Out Loud contest will be held at Rosemont High School located at 9594 Kiefer Boulevard.

The teens will perform in front of a live audience and a panel of judges for a chance to advance to the California Poetry Out Loud competition held March 20 -21 in Sacramento. The state winner will receive $200 and an expenses-paid trip to compete in the national competition in Washington, D.C. later this year.

Participating high schools schools in the contest on Feb. 3 include: Bella Vista, Center, Del Campo, Elinor L. Hickey, Elk Grove, Heritage Peak Charter, Inderkum, John F.

Fairytale Town  is proud to present SHAKESPERIMENT 2011, a new extension of their popular and successful Fairytale Town Troupers program. The first production will be a brand new one act adaptation of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream: Fairies & Fools!",  featuring young actors ages 12 to 21. 

This innovative and original production focuses on the disharmony between the King and Queen of Fairyland and a group of bumbling actors who unwittingly cross their paths. It's a fun and family friendly romp filled with music, magic, mirth and mayhem.

Telugu Association hosts SanKranthi and 7th Anniversary Celebration

The Telugu Association of Greater Sacramento (TAGS) is celebrating the Indian harvest festival “Sankranti” and its 7th year Anniversary with a gamut of cultural events.
